Memoirs

  • October 18, 2023

We are super honored to be featured on the cover of this week's Flagpole Magazine, as we announce the forthcoming release of our new full length album, In the Shadow of the Midnight Sun, scheduled for full release in early 2024. We hoped to announce the album last week, but we are pressing vinyl and this process takes a little time to get right!

Our latest single, Heterochromia, dropped today. It's available on Spotify, Apple Play, Bandcamp and other major streaming services.

This song, like many on our upcoming record, focuses on mental health (this song in a little more abstract way). Heterochromia describes the inner turmoil of someone going through an acute existential crisis, questioning what death is and how we(humans) came about into exisitence, while being severely mentally ill. The individual has seen everything they know and care about taken from them leaving them with only the misery of living to look forward to each day. The duality of both wanting to have hope and get better, with the crushing reality that things may never.

We are shooting videos for two unreleased song this weekend with our friend Blake Pipes. Super excited!

We want the absolute best possible quality for our first release on vinyl, so our release date will be pushed back a little. Continue looking for new singles to drop over the coming rest of the year. We are looking at Jan/Feb for a full release, when our vinyl is ready for order!

  • April 28, 2023: Our new single Kaiju was released today!

  • April 10, 2023: Our new single Kaiju Releases late April, 2023

  • August 26, 2022 - Greetings. We've been hard at work on a number of projects within the band, and are excited about our upcoming shows!

The most important news is that we are actively writing songs for our next record. We are super stoked about what we have so far and cannot wait to share with you.

Starting a couple months ago, we've gone all in on IEMs (in ear monitors). We performed our first live show a couple weekends ago with this setup and multiple people came up to us after and said the new sound was amazing. Still have a few kinks to work out (we couldn't hear some of our track channels on stage), but we can't imagine going back to wedge monitors!

In September, we play Athens PRIDE on the 17th - super excited for that. A couple weeks later we travel down to Florida to perform at Obscura Undead's goth night along with our long time friends Entertainment. Caustic Bats rounds out that bill.

On October 2, we are back at the Masquerade performing with Korine!

Hope to see you very soon, darlings!!

  • March 31, 2022 - Greetings and happy ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ Trans Day of Visibility ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ!

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the war in Ukraine ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ. Power to all who oppose fascism, and peace for the people as soon as it can be reached.

We are gearing up for a two date tour with Nox Novacula and Secret Shame starting in Athens on April 19, and the following night in Nashville, TN. We are super excited for these shows!

Last month we played with a live drummer for the first time since the 00's. The show with Vision Video and Entertainment was magical. A lot of good things are happening in the Southeast with the goth/postpunk scene.

Adria recently played second guitar with one of her favorite Athens bands, Pylon Reenactment Society ๐Ÿ”ถ, for two shows including opening for Gang of Four at the Masquerade in Atlanta. She wrote, "It was a dream come true. We also toured down to Savannah where we played the entire Chomp album front to back."

Tears is finally planning to release another EP in the coming months. Between moving to a new house and the needed repairs it needed ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ, Adria has had her hands full. We'll have news soon so stay tuned!

For those near Athens, Adria is co-KJ'ing a new goth/postpunk/punk karaoke night called Dark Entries. Our next events are scheduled for Friday April 8 and Friday April 29.

  • June 1, 2021 - Greetings and Happy Pride Month!!

We just released a brand new single, Mortuary, off of our next record.

Adria also recently moved back to Athens and is working with two new musicians. We'll have more in our socials in the next month or so!

Live music is finally starting to return! We have a show booked in August, our first since February 2020! Details coming soon!

  • Dec 2, 2020 - Hi! I just found our old website code and wanted to put it out again for a little while, until we have a modern site completed. Please check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and Bandcamp for updated info, pictures and music!

  • 2 April 2006 - Tears for the Dying t-shirts for sale: They come in black, white or green - and two designs are available. Shirts are being sold at our cost.

  • 3.10.2006 - We had our sixth practice last night at our new bassist's house. The music is still a little rough but a few songs are beginning to take shape. I can't rave about Christina's bass playing enough.. she's good. We're going to drop the covers for now & play one or two new originals.

This is the first opportunity I've had to play guitar & sing, full time. It's a little unusual in that my hands are (obviously) pre-occupied.. so no flailing about for me. My goal each practice is to not look at the fretboard while playing, or to do so infrequently. Sometimes that produces awkward results but I won't learn any other way.

Well... There is a spider crawling on the ceiling. Naturally, it's creeping my way. I can't tell what it is yet. It's about an inch and a half wide from leg to leg. and it looks dark. And hungry. I know what's going to happen. It's going to crawl right around above my head, then its going to decide to fall. Spider's abdomen seems somewhat triangular, with the widest part being next to the cephalothorax. Now it has stopped crawling around and is sitting predatorily along the edge of the ceiling, with front legs spread wide. Right above my head.

    I digress..

So, we decided last night to begin looking for a venue to play our first show with new lineup. The default answer is TLGWH, but maybe there are other clubs suitable for newer acts. I don't want to bug Lenny's/MJQ until we have the kinks worked out. I guess we'll figure out what to do next week.

    Off to work....

  • 9.5.2005 - Our shows went off (almost) without a hitch Friday and Saturday. The country/western bar we played Friday was a little strange, though we were a lot strange to the regulars in attendance.

Saturday's show at Lenny's was our second gig and we felt at ease in front of freinds, aquaintences and the regulars who came to see us play. We hope to have a few extra photos from the show but for now here's a low-res image taken by Sandy Hood

  • 8.18.2005 - Would you like to see us perform in North Carolina?

Eccentrik is a music festival held in NC this fall. They are taking votes to see who plays, and Tears for the Dying is one of the bands on the list.

So if you want to see us perform please go cast your vote.

  • 8.4.2005 - Tears for the Dying is honored to be performing with S.I.D.S. at Lenny's on Saturday, September 3rd. The show is S.I.D.S. 7" release party, and our very first public performance.

  • 7.19.2005 - (News) Not much to write about right now, but it appears as though that is soon to change. We've made a minor lineup change and added a second guitarist to the band. New songs are being stitched together and brought to life. Things are happening...
